Pros: When most people think of the horror movie genre, they think of jump scares, people getting stabbed, and bloody, gorey scenes. The Invisible Man does an excellent job of showing that what makes the horror genre so scary is not only just scary images, but also the suspense. Most people don't realize that not seeing the monster, can sometimes be way scarier than seeing your attacker. This film does a superb job of making you grab the edge of your seat until your knuckles turn white and holding your breath because you're afraid that a single sound might give the protagonist away. This is partially due to the fact of the cinematography and the score of the film. Since the audience and the protagonist can't see the antagonist, the camera subtly lets the audience know that the Man is there and he is always watching. To achieve this, there were numerous moments in the movie where the protagonist was in one room, yet the camera pans to another random room where it looks like there's nobody in there, yet it is clear that you just can't see who‘s there. This leads the viewer to look for even the slightest clue that there is in fact someone there. To help with that, the score of the movie is brilliant. The music strikes suspense into your heart and makes it so that scenes or moments that wouldn't be scary normally, terrifies you while you're watching the movie. The other major part of the movie that makes it incredible is the acting. Elizabeth Moss does an Oscar worthy job of playing a women who is terrified of everything because of her being abused. As the audience, your heart breaks apart as you see her being tormented by someone that no one else can see, and you see her slowly losing her sanity as no one believes her and no one can help her. In terms of action sequences, while the first two acts aren't as fast paced, the third act goes from 0 to 60 extremely quickly. There was never a moment when I felt bored while watching this movie. The biggest thing that is so terrifying in this film, was how the events in the movie could happen to anybody. The way that the film shows how abuse can mess with someone's mind and personality is extremely eye-opening. Cons: The only major problem I had with this movie were some plot holes. There were some minor occurances and actions in this film that were never fully explained and that takes away some of the believeiblity that is supposed to tie this movie to the ground. Star Rating: 8/10
Final Thoughts: The Invisible Man is by far one of the best horror movies I have ever seen. With incredible acting, cinematography, and suspense, it will leave people leaving the movie with the terrifying feeling that someone is watching them.
